National park kickstarts multi-million EUR project

Update: 24/09/2008
The central province of Quang Binh on September 18 started work on a 17.72 million EUR project on conservation and management of the natural resources at the Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park.

Of the total investment, 14.4 million EUR comes from Germany in the form of grant and soft loans and the remaining sourced from the state budget.

The project will be carried out between now and 2015, focusing on increasing income and generating jobs through eco-tourism for residents in the park’s buffer zone, which covers 13 communes with a population of 56,000.

Within framework of the project, a special operation fund will be set up to help boost patrols in the park and build a close coordination among local residents, forest rangers and the authorities to reduce illegal logging and poaching.
