The target audience of the EU Climate Diplomacy Week is the young generations, whose futures are the most threatened by climate change. Climate change is a pressing reality today and, if we fail to act now, it will increasingly affect the future of the young, their children and grandchildren. It is time to respond to this call to action.
The chargée d'Affaires of the European Union, Mrs Axelle Nicaise said: “We want to show our support to the youth and value their efforts in bringing awareness to such a worrying and pressing issue like climate change. Earth's future depends on our engagement, and so does life as we know it. We have seen last Friday millions of people around the world held a global climate strike, inspired by activist Greta Thunberg. Hence, we would like to join forces and promote a more ambitious climate action.''
Viet Nam has been ranked among the five countries likely to be severely affected by climate change and its related disasters. Consistent to its international commitments regarding Climate Change and Sustainable Development Goals, the European Union is actively helping Viet Nam on mitigation through energy sector reform, and adaptation through funding studies on climate change impact and appropriate adaptation measures.
Within the 2014-2020 framework, the EU allocated EUR 320 Million for programmes relevant to environment, natural resources and climate change in Vietnam, as well as an addition of EUR 30 Million for sustainable investment projects. In addition to this purely bilateral envelop, Vietnam can also benefits from cooperation programmes funded by thematic budget lines and from regional programme.
