According to Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association (VITA) Vu The Binh, the decision was made based on the fact that Vietnam has not had community transmission of Covid-19 for 14 days and the Government has allowed the organisation of mass gathering events with proper measures to ensure the safety of participants.

VITM 2020 was initially rescheduled from April 1-4 to May 14-17 and then to August 12-15 due to the pandemic. The November event will be held under a new theme of ‘Digital transformation pushes tourism’, replacing its previous two themes, namely “Heritage - Power of Vietnam Tourism” and “Vietnamese Tourism Looks Towards the Future”.

It will bring together enterprises providing tech solutions for the tourism industry who will introduce visitors to their latest technologies in travel and tourism.

Participants at the event are encouraged to develop initiatives and ideas to foster digital transformation and apply technologies in order to make fundamental changes in the management, operation and organisations of tourism activities.

To date, more than 300 businesses from 54 cities and provinces nationwide have confirmed that they will join the event.

The 2019 VITM featured more than 500 booths by 720 businesses from both at home and abroad. It welcomed more than 90,000 visitors and earned estimated revenue of around VND322.3 billion (US$13.8 million).
