The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho is anticipated to implement a range of green tourism projects and set up models for waste collection on the river as part of key tasks aimed at both preserving and developing tourism activities at the Cai Rang floating market.
These efforts were unveiled in the latest document issued by the Steering Committee for Tourism Development of Can Tho City detailing the conservation and development of Cai Rang floating market in the year ahead.
According to the document, these tasks will be implemented with the aim of turning Cai Rang floating market into a cultural and tourism destination for both domestic and foreign tourists, thereby promoting the value of aspects of national cultural heritage and accelerating the socio-economic development of Can Tho city in a sustainable manner.
The People's Committee of Cai Rang district is poised to implement green tourism projects, collect garbage along the river, and raise awareness among the public of tourism activities in an effort to attract tourists at the floating market.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has co-ordinated efforts with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Department of Industry and Trade to sell the southern city’s “One Commune, One Product” (OCOP) products at Cai Rang floating market.
This will serve to facilitate the operations of craft villages, flower growers, and traders of agricultural products at the traditional market.
