Tourist accommodations not report current environmental situation

Update: 13/07/2012
(TITC)_According to the survey of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST), 100% of tourist accommodations do not report their current environmental situation.

The result was reported at the seminar on environmental protection at tourist accommodations from 26-27th, June in Thua Thien - Hue Province. In addition, there were only 50% of tourist accommodations having set environmental protection rules disseminated to their staff and tourists.

This is one of the reasons causing ineffective management in tourism environment.

The waste water treatment system in majority of tourist accommodations is considered an alert issue. The report also said more than 27% of tourist accommodations discharged wastewater directly into the environment and 60% used only filtration tank.

At the seminar, managers, tourism professionals and businesses have contributed ideas about energy saving solutions, discharge system and green tourism model in hotels and resorts. Furthermore, they also discussed on key issues such as looking for investment capital for environmental protection activities, creating the connection between government, businesses and other stakeholders…

In the recent years, tourist accommodations system in Viet Nam has been developing rapidly from 69,000 rooms in 2001 up to 265,000 in 2011.

On 12th April 2012, the MoCST has issued a set of criteria of the sustainable tourism Green Lotus Label applied for tourist accommodations in Viet Nam.

The Green Lotus Label has 5 levels, from 1 green lotus to 5 green lotuses which recognizes efforts of accommodations to protect environment and develop sustainable tourism without depending on the rank and type of accommodations.
