From mid-November, Suoi Thau grassland, dubbed "miniature Switzerland" with blooming buckwheat flower fields, has attracted crowds of tourists to visit and take photos.
Located about 5 km from Coc Pai town, Xin Man district, Ha Giang province, and at an altitude of more than 1,200 m above sea level, Suoi Thau grassland is an attractive destination.
With winding hillsides, long terraced fields of buckwheat interspersed with tall cunninghamia trees in the middle of the steppe and blessed with a cool climate, Suoi Thau is compared to a "miniature Switzerland at the heart of Ha Giang".
Suoi Thau is beautiful in each season. In spring, golden mustard flowers grace the landscape, while summer sees the fields adorned with the lush greenery of corn, rice, and grasslands. Late autumn and early winter are the most beautiful and dazzling seasons, with the pink and white buckwheat flowers intertwined with cunninghamia trees, creating a tapestry of colors.
Buckwheat flowers typically bloom in Ha Giang from late October to early December when the weather becomes cool and foggy.
Buckwheat flowers bloom in small clusters with petals forming an elegant cone shape.
The flowers are initially white but gradually take on a delicate pinkish hue and finally turning dark pink as the cooler weather sets in.
Beyond their aesthetic appeal, buckwheat flowers are also a culinary delight, incorporated into various local dishes and cakes.
To serve the increasing demand of tourists, local people often plant two buckwheat crops, one after another. The buckwheat flower season in Ha Giang lasts about two months, from September to December.
Each entrance ticket for a random visit to a buckwheat flower garden in Suoi Thau costs 20,000 VND (79 cents) per person.
With its wild, rustic, peaceful beauty, Suoi Thau is said to be as beautiful as a European village in fairy tales.
