(TITC) - The Government plans to launch a pilot inbound tourism program with an aim to lure 2-3 million arrivals to Phu Quoc Island by this year’s end, according to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at cabinet meeting on 6th September.
At the meeting, the Ministry of Planning and Investment reported that the socio-economic situation in the first 8 months of the year remained basically stable, achieved positive results. However, there are still difficulties and challenges due to the impact of the 4th wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
Government members analyzed pandemic prevention and socio-economic development in the coming time, especially after the pandemic is under control. Many opinions suggest that COVID-19 vaccination should be further accelerated, instructions on travel and activities of those who have full vaccinations soon be released.
He called for doubling efforts to put the COVID-19 pandemic under control by the end of this month but preventive measures need to remain in place due to the shortage of vaccines.
Prime Minister requested to maintain business without breaking the value chain, production and supply chain. Piloting to attract international tourists to Phu Quoc from now until the end of the year (expected 2-3 million visitorarivals).
Previously, following the policy of the Politburo and the direction of the Prime Minister, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism – VNAT (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) coordinated with ministries, localities todevelop pilot plans to resume international tourists to Phu Quoc.
As planned, on 9th September, VNAT, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will have a meeting with the People's Committee of Kien Giang Province on this pilot plan.
VNAT has worked closely with relevant units under the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Information and Communications to build a vaccination certification system according to European standards in order to be ready reopen inbound tourism. The system has been integrated into Vietnam Safe Travel application, meeting of security, safety and information security, supporting tourists from before entering to leaving Vietnam.
The "Vietnam Safe Travel" application has officially integrated the "Health declaration" feature according to the regulations of the Ministry of Health. The declared data is directly linked to Health Declaration Management System of National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.
In addition to the health declaration, the application is also being upgraded and integrated with many other convenient features including COVID-19 safety declaration for tourism business establishments, safe travel digital map, and will be integrated features such as health record tracking, travel insurance, e-tickets, booking services, tourism discovery…
