VN to contribute to success of UN climate change conference

Vietnam will make contributions to the success of the United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in December, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on Nov. 30.
While receiving Danish Ambassador Peter Lysholt Hansen in Hanoi, PM Dung stressed on Vietnam’s pledge on solutions to cope with climate change and sea water rise.
The prime minister added that politic pledges play an important role for the success of the conference, especially those by developed countries focused on cutting green house gases and effects, assisting under developed and developing countries to cope with climate change and sea water rise, and supporting new and environmentally friendly technology transference.
PM Dung also said that it is necessary to set up a global coordination organisation to boost the implementation of pledges to be made at the conference.
He thanked the Danish government for its assistance to Vietnam ’s efforts in dealing with issues related to climate change and sea water rise. He called on the Danish government to support Vietnam in its discussion at the conference as well as in its efforts in deploying projects on medical waste treatment and wind energy use.
For his part, ambassador Hansen said that developed countries have voiced their commitments to cut green house gases and assist developing countries to cope with climate change.
Hansen added that Denmark will continue to provide assistance to help Vietnam cope with climate change and sea water rise.
