(TITC) - On September 24, Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh - Chairman of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) presided an online meeting with Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hau Giang Province on tourism development.
According to the report at meeting, Hau Giang Province has a dense system of rivers and canals, along with large fruit orchards, creating a green and peaceful space suitable for developing eco-tourism. The province is home of number of historical and cultural relics, local festivals, traditional craft villages and diversified culinary culture.
In 2019, Hau Giang attracted 486,800 tourist arrivals, including 24,340 international visitors; total tourism revenue reached more than VND 171 billion. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the total number of tourists to province in 2020 was only 228,900 arrivals, decreasing by 47% in comparison with 2019, international visitor arrivals down 75%; tourism revenue drop 56%.
In the period 2015 - 2020, the province had an average annual growth of 4.67% in number of visitors, and 18.77% in tourism revenue.
Recently, Hau Giang Province has approved the Project on Hau Giang Tourism Development to 2020, vision to 2025; Project on Creating the image of Hau Giang Province in the period of 2020-2025, vision to 2030; Project on Ecotourism in Lung Ngoc Hoang Nature Reserve....
Mr. Le Cong Khanh, Director of Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism proposed VNAT to support Hau Giang in promoting the value of relics associated with tourism development; supporting market research, tourism promotion, training human resources, building typical tourism products and considering choosing Lung Ngoc Hoang Nature Reserve in the list of potential national tourist zones.
The Chairman affirmed that VNAT will always accompany and work closely with the Hau Giang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to implement the proposed contents.
He also called Hau Giang to prepare restarting tourism activities in the new situation, participating in the implementation of tourism stimulus and recovery programs issued by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. In particular, it is necessary to focus on developing safe tourism, building new products, enhancing promotion and communication, application of information technology and digital transformation in tourism industry.
