Opening of the conference, Mr. Doan Van Viet, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that many years until 2019, Vietnam tourism grown at a double-digit rate. This result has showed that the great contribution and support by overseas representative missions of Vietnam in connecting, spreading Vietnam cultural identity and attracting international tourists.
Recently, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST) has worked with localities and businesses to restart domestic tourism after the pandemic is under control, entering the phase of safe living with COVID-19. The pilot plan to reopen international tourism to Phu Quoc Island has also been built. This is an opportunity to fully reopen inbound tourism in the near future.
The participation and cohesion of Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and overseas representative missions of Vietnam play an important role in attracting international tourists back to Vietnam.

At the conference, Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Vice Chairman of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism introduced the pilot plan to welcome international tourists to Phu Quoc. Ambassadors/representatives of diplomatic missions of Vietnam in many countries such as Japan, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, USA, UK, Germany, Spain, Russia, China, Australia, Malaysia... had informed about the COVID-19 situation, vaccination program in each country.
Accordingly, these countries are well controlling the pandemic, the number of infections is gradually decreasing, and the rate of vaccination against COVID-19 increases rapidly. Many countries reopened travel and tourism activities.
Delegates also said that, after a long period of being affected by the pandemic, people are willing to travel again, the demand is great. They concerned about regulations on entry, quarantine, isolation as well as direct flights.
Delegates also emphasized the need to recognition of vaccination certificates between Vietnam and other countries. Mr. To Anh Dung informed that MOFA has coordinated with relevant bodies developed mutual recognition of vaccination certificates and submitted to the Government. Vietnam has temporarily recognized the vaccination certificates of 72 countries and territories, which are authenticated by overseas representative missions of Vietnam.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Doan Van Viet highly appreciated the companionship of MOFA and overseas representative missions of Vietnam in promoting tourism. He informed that the People's Committee of Kien Giang Province is collecting comments of ministries on detailed pilot plan to welcome international tourists to Phu Quoc. He called the embassies and diplomatic missions abroad continue to pay attention to promote the pilot plan when it is launched.
