AFEPS with sea divers in Ly Son

From 04-07 December 2009, a 7 person delegation led by Dr. Jean Ruffez, Chairman of AFEPS (Association Francophone d’Entraide et de Promotion des Sciences de la Vie), went to Quang Ngai and met with relevant provincial agencies of Department of Health, Department of Foreign Affairs, Ly Son District People’s Committee to review the Project “Training and Supporting the primary aid skills for sea divers in Ly Son”, a source said by DoFA.

Experts of delegation met again sea divers who were trained on sea diving skills in February 2009 to consider their work effectiveness after receiving the detailed guides from health experts of AFEPS.

The 50,000 Euro project-funded by AFEPS-provided the basic sea diving equipments including diving clothes, masks, oxy tanks ... and methods how to dive safely in the sea for local fishers.

After exchanging information with AFEPS, provincial agencies requested AFEPS should continue to have training plan for health workers of Ly Son district hospital on the ways to treat and limit the sea accidents to the local fishers in the coming time. 

Before leaving Quang Ngai, AFEPS chairman promised they would return Quang Ngai on March 2010 to survey and have support plan for Quang Ngai fishers in general.

Reportedly, Ly Son district has 20,530 residents, of whom 2,787 persons work in the sea. They must face with annual sea accidents and natural disasters. According to Department of Health, some 400 cases of accidents occur yearly to Ly Son fishers, especially the sea diving accidents. These sea diving accidents often leave heavy consequences to people such as invalid, deaf, stress, myelitus, brain paralytic.

AFEPS is the first non government organization interesting in sea accident problem.
