Vietnam’s “scientific city” to use electric cars

Update: 25/12/2009
To reduce emissions and to pioneer using regenerated energy, the Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park in Hanoi will began using electric cars in early 2010.

The Deputy Minister of Science and Technology and the chief of the Hoa Lac Hi-tech Parks management board Nguyen Van Lang said around six to 10 electric cars will be put into use next year. In the long run the park will use electric or regenerated fuel buses.

The park has installed some street lamps using LED technology and fueled by wind and solar energy in its pilot programme. In the future, the entire park will be lit by this kind of lamps.

A building that employs the clean development mechanism (CDM) to reduce emissions is being built in the park.

Hoa Lac is one of two hi-tech parks in Vietnam, besides another in HCM City, with a total area of nearly 1600 hectares. This hi-tech park will be built in the form of a modern scientific city. It focuses on the following fields of research: information technology, software, biotechnology, new material technology, environmentally friendly technology and new energy.
