"The Way" - Vietnamese Folk Painting on Lacquer: Artistic creation elevates the value of folk paintings

(TITC) - In order to restore and preserve the values of ancient folk art, creating an impressive line of art products, on 7th October, Ha Noi Museum in coordination with Latoa Indochine to kick off the Vietnamese Folk Painting on Lacquer Exhibition “The Way”.

Giving a remark at the Opening ceremony, Mr. Pham Ngoc Long, Chairman of Latoa Indochine said, this is a project that has been nurtured for a while, keeping the mindset of preserving cultural values and quintessence. At the same time, expressing the ambition to maintain and restore the line of Vietnamese folk paintings, cultural and fine art values, national values, feng shui values and bring them to a new level; spread traditional values not only in Vietnam but also to be one of the product lines that are well received by the whole world.

The exhibition displays nearly 100 works of art made by a group of artists of Latoa Indochine with famous folk paintings such as Hang Trong, Dong Ho, and Kim Hoang paintings, but were renovated by engraved lacquer painting (the combination of lacquer and engravement). In a new expression of art, “The Way” exhibition shows an interesting and full of creation angle on the traditional paintings of Vietnam, carrying on the development of an ancient culture to a new height, blending the idyllic folk in the modern and high-class flow.

An engraved lacquer painting takes 15-20 steps and about 3 months to complete. The exhibition conveys the message of preserving the traditional beauty, culture and history of the Vietnamese nation in general and folk paintings in particular, turning Ha Noi Museum into a beloved destination for art lovers, who want to learn about folk paintings. Thereby creating a premise to develop folk paintings on lacquer carving into a unique cultural product of the capital.

The exhibition focuses on 3 groups of paintings: folk paintings; famous illustrious Vietnamese scholar Nguyen Trai and Buddhist paintings. “The Way” exhibition at Ha Noi Museum will take place until 31st December 2022.
