The event also attracted the participation of foreign diplomatic corps, international organisations, international businesses and foreigners, who are living and working in the city.
The three-day festival features an art space introducing the culture of Ho Chi Minh City and foreign localities; a display of high-tech agricultural products in the city; art performances; and an Ao Dai (traditional Vietnamese long dress) show.
Festival-goers can also sample indigenous dishes and take part in various sporting events.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Duong Anh Duc, emphasised that over its five editions with many diverse activities, the festival has attracted a large number of locals and tourists.
The festival aims to introduce the typical cultural features of Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City in particular, to the international community, while creating an opportunity for participating foreign countries to promote their culture to Vietnamese friends.
