Vietnamese Banana Cake and Steamed Tapioca Layer Cake on top 100 best rated cakes in the world

(TITC) - Tasteatlas recently listed its top 100 best rated cakes in the world, in which, Vietnamese Banana Cake (Bánh chuối) and Steamed Tapioca Layer Cake (Bánh da lợn) are put at no.99 and no.72 in the list respectively.

Cakes from far have been a tempting desert which hardly resisted. Basically made from flours, eggs, sugar, milk and other ingredients, each country has its own way to make them and turn their cake into the national symbol.

Besides Pho - the “soul” dish of Vietnam, the country also has its delicious cakes to try, among them are Banh Chuoi - Banana Cake and Banh da lon - Steamed Tapioca Layer Cake.

Vietnamese Banana Cake

As the name suggests, bananas are the main ingredient to make this classic Vietnamese dessert. To make Banana cake, you will need sliced bananas, condensed milk, sugar, coconut milk and flour, eggs or shredded coconut (optional). It can be steamed or baked depending on your preference, and of course, the shape and texture might be varied as well. But one thing for sure, the cake will blow your mind at the very first bite and melt any heart by its sweetness.

Steamed Tapioca Layer Cake

This traditional cake of Vietnam was originally from the Southern part with its chewy taste. It’s made with mung beans, tapioca starch, rice flour and coconut milk. Cake turns out purely transparent with a pale yellow layer from mung beans and a green layer from pandan leaves. You can switch mung beans with any ingredients from durian to taro. This is a steamed cake and left to be chilled in the temperature room.
