Update: 14/02/2023
South China Morning Post (SCMP) of Hong Kong (China) has included Ban Gioc Waterfall in Cao Bang province on the border with China in its list of the world's most Instagrammable international borders.

Ban Gioc Waterfall in Cao Bang province

Ban Gioc encompasses a series of waterfalls along the Quay Son river in Trung Khanh district, Cao Bang povince.

Surrounded by vast limestone karst mountains and rice fields, the site is part of the UNESCO-recognised Non Nuoc Cao Bang geopark whose fossils, sediments, volcanic rocks, and karst landscapes are believed to be 500 million years old.

“Visitors who get up close to the turquoise cascades in bamboo rafts can expect a good soaking from the clouds of spray,” says SCMP.

The ideal time in which to visit the waterfall is between September and October as the rice harvest season and paddies along the Quay Son River turn golden yellow.

This comes after, magazine Travel+Leisure of the United States had named Ban Gioc Waterfall among the top 21 most beautiful waterfalls in the world. In addition, US website Wonderslist also listed the site as one of the world’s most amazing waterfalls globally.

Rounding off the list of the most Instagrammable border crossings are Niagara Falls situated between the US and Canada, Victoria Falls between Zambia and Zimbabwe, the Guadiana river between Spain and Portugal, and the Andes mountains between Chile and Argentina.
