(TITC) - Quang Nam Province pays great attention to the orientation of green and sustainable tourism development. On 25th May 2023, the province worked with the delegation of the Swiss Tourism for Sustainable Development Project (ST4SD) on the on promoting the implementation of green and sustainable tourism development programmes.
The project supported by the Swiss Government in Vietnam during the period 2023 – 2027 aims to promoting sustainable tourism development policies; organise training courses on sustainable tourism, build a sustainable green tourism model.

At the meeting, Mr. Van Ba Son, Vice Director of the Quang Nam Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said, Quang Nam Province home to two world culture heritage sites, namely Hoi An Ancient Town and My Son Sanctuary, and Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve, Bai Choi Art Singing - the intangible cultural heritage of humanity recognised by UNESCO.
In 2022, Tra Que Vegetable Village was recognised by the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Quang Nam Province boasts great potential for various types of tourism such as agricultural and rural tourism, experience tourism, maritime and culinary tourism, and tourism associated with biodiversity.
In the first 5 months of 2023, the total number of tourists visiting and staying in the province is estimated at 3,486,000 arrivals, increasing 2.2 times; In which, international visitors were estimated at 1,621,000 arrivals, up 30 times over the same period in 2022.
Mr. Ho Quang Buu, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee said, Quang Nam sticks to the plan of developing green and sustainable tourism products on the basis of the green tourism criteria issued by the locality in late 2021.

It has focused on improving the quality of tourism products, developing new products, opening and expanding the space of Hoi An Ancient Town Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve, My Son World Cultural Heritage; expanding the space of Hoi An Ancient Town and Night Market, Hoi An Memories Island Tourist Area; and promoting the use of smart tourism apps to serve tourists.
According to the Quang Nam Association of Tourism, it is necessary to work out and take measures to remove difficulties facing local tourism businesses, improve the tourism environment, ensure security and safety for tourists, and train human resources serving the tourism industry.

According to Mr. Ken Wood Chief coordinator of ST4SD Vietnam, the project aims to help Vietnam develop its tourism industry comprehensively and more sustainably. The project will support Quang Nam in promoting sustainable tourism development policies, organising training courses on sustainable tourism, building sustainable and environmentally friendly green tourism models, improving the capacity and skills of human resources serving the tourism sector, and raising public awareness of protecting the environment and preserving local culture.
