Vinh Luong Commune Fatherland Front Committee, Nha Trang City is developing self-managed environmental protection models for the sake of marine environment, drawing community involvement.
Beach clean-up joined by Vinh Luong Commune Fatherland Front Committee and companies.
According to Do Thi Tuyet Mai, Head of the Fatherland Front of Van Dang 2 Village, the waters in front of the Nam Hai Whale Temple in Van Dang 2 used to be ridden with trash. Before getting into water, swimmers are asked to join the clean-up effort at the beach to ensure the pristine nature of our coastline.
The team members themselves have launched and joined clean-up operations regularly and boosted propaganda to raise public awareness. Locals have also joined the effort, removing 5-6 tons of trash from the beach everyday.
In mid-March, Vinh Luong Commune Fatherland Front Committee launched the model “garbage bags for fishermen”, offering 130 garbage bags to bring trash ashore for treatment. The model has proved effective.
Nguyen Thanh Binh, Vinh Luong Commune has 2 off-shore fishing vessels. His fishing trips last for 10-15 days. Since the development of the model, his ship crew has changed their trash disposal by keeping waste in the garbage bags instead of throwing it into water.
In addition, another environmental protection model named “joining hands to protect the environment, collecting used cans, plastics and paper” to raise funds for the poor; planting roadside flowers on Nguyen Van Chanh Street and in front of Vinh Luong Market; jointly with border force and firms located in the locality to regularly launch beach clean-up operations.
The model “beach cleaning before swimming” has proved very effective and has been applauded by locals, helping the beach cleaner. After 3 months developing the model “garbage bags for fishermen”, 30% of fishing boats have properly disposed the trash and bringing it ashore for treatment.
Apart from achievements, the environmental models have met some challenges in changing environmental behaviors. In the coming time, the Commune Fatherland Front will continue joint effort with relevant forces to boost propaganda to raise public awareness of responsibility to protect the environment, especially the marine one.
Le Duc Hai, Vice-Chairman of Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Nha Trang City: Over the past time, the Fatherland Front Committee in Vinh Luong Commune has effectively implemented self-management models, especially the model of flower cultivation on roads and beach clean-up.
In addition, the unit has cooperated with border guards and companies located in the area to regularly join the beach clean up effort. Especially the model on garage bags to collect waste on fishing boats has helped raised public awareness of environmental preservation.
