Promoting the values of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park World Heritage

(TITC) – On 30th June 2023, the international conference on "Promoting the values of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park World Heritage in the trend of integration and sustainable development" was organized in Dong Hoi City by People's Committee of Quang Binh Province in collaboration with Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The event is part of activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park being recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage Site (5th July 2003 – 5th July 2023).

In his opening remarks, Mr. Tran Thang  - Chairman of the provincial Party Committee said the process of tectonic crust of the earth more than 450 million years ago has worked hard to create Phong Nha - Ke Bang (Quang Binh Province) with unique values of geology, geomorphology, ecology and biodiversity.

There is forest of Calocedrus rupestris over 500 years old;  new species of fish and amphibians have been discovered. In particular, there are thousands of large and small caves, of which more than 400 caves were explored, such as: Son Doong - the largest cave in the world, Phong Nha cave - the world's longest underground river, and Thien Duong cave – the world’s magical, unique stalactites…

“After 20 years of preserving and promoting heritage values, Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park has become a tourist symbol of Quang Binh and Vietnam, a well-known tourist destination in the world; endless inspiration on protecting and promoting heritage values, discovering hidden values of Quang Binh land”, Mr. Tran Thang emphasized.

Quang Binh will do its utmost to preserve and exploit the heritage reasonably, effectively and sustainably in line with law, and relevant international conventions. The park will work closely with Hin Nam No National Park (Kham Muon Province, Laos) to form a unique tourist site of Southeast Asia and the world.

According to Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Mr. Hoang Dao Cuong, since being enrolled, the outstanding global values of geology, geomorphology, biodiversity and ecology of Phong Nha - Ke Bang have been constantly protected and promote. Phong Nha - Ke Bang "treasure" is being preserved and developed by the government and people of Quang Binh province in a harmonious and sustainable manner. Reasonable tourism development, a balanced approach between conservation and development, has improved the local livehood, contributing to the province's socio-economic development.

The conference had 3 sessions focusing on achievements in the heritage preservation as well as obstacles to the work.

The park will aim to be the world-class eco-tourism areas; products for sightseeing, caving; products to discover and experience Phong Nha - Ke Bang from above; and experiential tourism products combined with scientific research and environmental interpretation…
