Within the framework of the recent Da Nang Enjoy Festival 2023, the ‘Blue Ocean’ Festival at the Xuan Thieu Beach has attracted many associations and groups. The participants have got involved in cleaning up local beaches, visited a draw exhibition and installation art space, and taken part in extracurricular activities and workshops to learn about environmental conservation ways.
The activity aimed to raise people's awareness about saying no to plastic waste, protecting the environment and ecosystems at Da Nang tourist beaches, and proposing environmental protection initiatives.
Notably, during the peak tourist season, the Management Board of the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches has coordinated with districts and units to ensure security, order and environmental sanitation at the beach, as well as deal with street vendors and the situation of organising dinner parties on the sand.
At the same time, the Management Board has promoted propaganda on social networks, websites and coastal loudspeaker systems recommending not littering on beaches and regulations on keeping the marine environment green, clean and beautiful. This has helped to raise public awareness about the marine environment sanitation.
In the Son Tra Peninsula, the Management Board has regularly sent forces along coastal routes to ensure environmental sanitation, and raise awareness of people and tourists, especially in crowded areas such as Le Van Luong junction, Bai Chay and flower gardens.
The unit has regularly cooperated with associations, groups, businesses and individuals to organise the ‘Clean Up Son Tra - For a Green Son Tra’ campaign to clean up roads leading to the Peninsula.
“The first campaign was implemented in 2011 with a modest number of volunteers of about 50 friends. Up to now, the campaign has attracted a large number of volunteers with the desire to join hands in cleaning and preserving the green color of the city’s ‘green lung’” Mrs Duong Thi Xuan Lieu, Head of the Tourism Management and Operation Department under the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches said.
According to Mr. Phan Minh Hai, Deputy Head of the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches, at present, there have been many environmental protection activities deployed in the Son Tra Peninsula, drawing much attention of the community.
In the time to come, the management board will continue carrying out more environmental protection activities in a bid to raise awareness about marine environment protection among locals and tourists.
