A rare species of sea turtle listed among the wild animals threatened with extinction has been discovered in the coastal area of Co To island, Quang Ninh province, drawing plenty of attention from both locals and tourists.
Ngo Gia Manh, 20, of Dong Tien commune in Co To district, was the first person to find the sea turtle when he sailed a boat to Bien Dong beach with some of his friends.
The group recorded some clips and photos and posted on Facebook, drawing plenty of public attention. In a clip, the turtle weighing about 20kg had risen from the surface of water three times, with the longest time being about 15 minutes.
A few months ago dolphins also appeared in the coastal area of Co To island right next to the wharf.
This marks the first time that a sea turtle species has been spotted after a sea turtle weighing 125kg was released into the sea 10 years ago.
Co To island district is one of 16 marine protected areas approved by the Prime Minister due to its high level of biodiversity.
