(TITC) - No plastic bag week from 23 - 30 September 2023 in Hue (Thua Thien Hue Province), in order to raise awareness and create the habit of consumers carrying personal shopping bags when shopping while promoting the movement to reduce plastic pollution in the city.
On 24th September, the International Organization for Nature Conservation in Vietnam (WWF-Vietnam) coordinated with the Hue City People's Committee and related units launched the No Plastic Bag Week, encouraging consumers to bring personal bags when shopping.
This is one of the events of the project "Hue - Plastic Reduction Urban in Central Vietnam" sponsored by WWF-Norway via WWF-Vietnam. The launching programme has the participation of Dong Ba Market Management Board, Hue Co.opmart supermarket (Saigon Co.op), and GO! Hue supermarket.
The No Plastic Bag Week aimed at raising consumer awareness and creating the habit of carrying bags when shopping, while contributing to promoting the movement to reduce plastic pollution in Hue.
Responding to the No Plastic Bag Week, supermarkets will not distribute plastic bags at the checkout counters for 2 hours/day during the event days. Among them, supermarket GO! Hue will not distribute plastic bags from 13:00 to 15:00; and within the hours of 9am - 11am at Co.opmart Hue supermarket. At Dong Ba market, ecological stalls and refilling station models have been launched, contributing to reducing the use of plastic bags and single-use plastic items when shopping. Supermarkets and markets also increase propaganda, encouraging customers to bring their own bags to the market, spreading awareness about reducing the use of plastic bags in the community.
