A herd of 30 dolphins have been sighted on Co To island in the northeastern province of Quang Ninh swimming and hunting for food, as seen in a video clip shot by a local resident.
According to Tuan Anh, a fisherman based on Co To island, his 50-second video clip was recorded at midday on January 20.
The herd consisting of 30 dolphins, the largest of its kind seen in the area, were found about two to three kilometres off the coast of Co To island. They appeared for about half an hour before diving back into the sea.
This comes after local border guard soldiers had sighted a pod of whales appearing southeast of Co To island in December, 2023.
Some fishermen also said that a group of four to five whales swimming and hunting for food between July and September last year.
It’s said that the climate conditions and marine environment of Co To island is fresh, meaning that recently rare dolphins, whales, and sea turtles have all appeared in the area.
