Localities welcome first tourists of Lunar New Year 2024

Nui Sam (Sam Mountain) National Tourist Area in Chau Doc City, An Giang Province, welcomed more than 300,000 visitors on February 10 - the first day of the Lunar New Year, as reported by the site’s management board.

Binh Thuan Province welcomes first tourists of Lunar New Year 2024

The visitors flocked to the site to worship Ba Chua Xu (Holy Mother of the Realm) and Thoai Ngoc Hau (a prominent 19th-century general) at their temples built on Sam Mountain.

According to Vietnamese people’s beliefs, going to pagodas and temples at the beginning of the year will bring good health and peace throughout the year.

On the morning of February 10, the Binh Thuan Provincial People's Committee in coordination with the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the provincial Tourism Association presented gifts to hundreds of tourists who came to the locality on the first day of the Lunar New Year.

According to Nguyen Minh, Vice Chairman of Binh Thuan Provincial People's Committee, the province welcomed more than 8.5 million visitors and earned more than 23,000 billion VND in tourism revenue in 2023.

This year, Binh Thuan targets to greet over 9.5 million visitors with tourism revenue of 25,000 billion VND.

Additionally, the Vinh Long Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a ceremony yesterday morning to welcome the first international tourist to the province.

At the ceremony, the international guests, who came from the Netherlands, France and Italy, were presented with gifts and typical specialties of Vinh Long Province.

Speaking at the event, Nguyen Xuan Hoanh, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, expressed his thanks to the foreigners for choosing Vinh Long as the destination for their trip and his hope that they will have interesting travel experiences during their stay in the locality.

The northern province of Quảng Ninh, home to the UNESCO-recognised Ha Long Bay, also welcomed its first group of nearly 300 visitors from the Republic of Korea (RoK) to the heritage site that day.

Pham Van Hiep, managing director of the Ha Long International Cruise Port, said a total of around 2,000 international tourists visited the bay on the day.

Ha Long Bay is expected to attract some 1.4 million vacationers this year, up 25-30% from the previous year.

According to the provincial Department of Tourism, Quang Ninh Province aims to lure at least 17 million arrivals in 2014, including three million international visitors.
