Quang Nam province is promoting the quantification and development of carbon credits from ecosystems in the Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve.
Cham Islands, Hoi An city
In addition to focusing on creating carbon credits from forests, Quang Nam is aiming to exploit carbon credits from other ecosystems.
Currently, the Secretariat of Cu Lao Cham World Biosphere Reserve and VinaCapital are updating the information system, data, and local and international legal basis to complete the construction of the project on carbon credits for ecosystems in the Cu Lao Cham-Hoi An Biosphere Reserve.
This is an activity to quantify the carbon fixation capacity of major ecosystems in the biosphere reserve, such as the primary forest on the Cham Islands, the nipa palm forest of the downstream Thu Bon river, seagrass beds, seaweed, and other key ecosystems.
The project is aimed at introducing and selling carbon credits, creating revenues from ecological services, and serving the conservation and sustainable development of the biosphere reserve.
