The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Vietnam and the “For a liveable Ha Noi” network organised a seminar on “Ecological and social approaches in promoting sustainable and inclusive urbanism: Stakeholder engagement from experience in Ha Noi”.

Delegates attends the seminar

The seminar is an opportunity to share the results of environmental survey research and space use on the banks of the Red River in Phuc Tan Ward and Chuong Duong Ward, Hoan Kiem District (Ha Noi) implemented by the “For a livable Ha Noi” network, the Faculty of Architecture and Planning under the Ha Noi University of Civil Engineering, and GreenHub.

The report reflects the current environmental situation and people's expectations on how to develop the banks of Red River in a sustainable manner, and also introduces some practical experiences to contribute to Ha Noi's sustainable urban development goals.

Le Quang Binh, Coordinator of the “For a liveable Ha Noi” network, said: This study was conducted to provide a more general overview of how to manage the environment through space improvement with participation of the community.

This research is also a practice of social integration with the participation of local management agencies, people, students, lecturers, and experts in fields such as planning, ecology, environment, and society. This ensures that the survey results integrate many different perspectives, thereby providing a more thorough and inclusive solution.

With special values in education and tourism, the city government needs to take measures to manage riverside areas to preserve ecology and increase the area of public space for people.

Speaking at the seminar, Sabina Stein, Head of Governance and Participation at UNDP in Vietnam, shared that UNDP in Vietnam agree with people's expectations of turning the banks of the Red River into a symbol of sustainable development, thus contributing to the economic, social, and cultural prosperity of Ha Noi. With the support of the Ha Noi government and Hoan Kiem district, UNDP in Vietnam can turn this vision into reality.
