Opening of Vietnam Cultural Week in Cambodia in 2024: Sedate friendship, looking forward to the future

(TITC) - On 21st May, in Phnom Penh City (Cambodia), Mr. Ta Quang Dong, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam (MOCST) and Mr. Phouerng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Arts of Cambodia chaired the Opening Ceremony of the Vietnam Cultural Week in Cambodia in 2024.

The event also had the participation of Vietnamese Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang, high-ranking delegates from ministries and branches of the two countries, tourists and a large number of Vietnamese and Cambodian people, students, etc.

Speaking at the event, MOCST’s Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong stressed, Vietnam - Cambodia have relations of solidarity, traditional friendly cooperation and good neighbours. After more than half a century of diplomatic relations, Vietnam - Cambodia are pleased to see that the cooperative relationship in many fields between the two countries is increasingly developing well, achieving many important results in the fields of politics, economics, culture, education… Thereby, bringing huge benefits to the people of the two countries.

Implementing the agreement of the two countries' senior leaders and the Plan for cultural and artistic cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia for the period 2023 - 2027, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam and the Ministry of Culture and Arts of Cambodia have been regularly coordinating to organise cultural exchange programmes, contributing to strengthening neighbourly friendship and people-to-people exchanges. In 2024, the two sides coordinate to organise the Vietnam Cultural Week in Cambodia in the capital Phnom Penh, the city embodies traditional cultural values and Banteay Meanchey Province, which preserves many unique heritage values of Cambodia.

Through this event, Vietnam wishes to introduce to the Cambodian people and international friends the beauty of Vietnamese culture through traditional music, dance and music performance programmes. In which, there are a number of art forms that have been registered by UNESCO on the list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity, added MOCST’s Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong.

MOCST’s Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong showed his confidence that along with cultural exchange activities between the two countries in recent times, the Vietnam Cultural Week in Cambodia 2024 will continue to be an important milestone in strengthening solidarity and friendship, understanding each other; actively contributing to consolidating, strengthening and further developing the relationship of "good neighbours, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability" between the two countries.

Cambodian Minister of Culture and Arts Phouerng Sackona affirmed, in the current context of globalisation and technological development, countries consider culture and arts as a catalyst to promote socio-economic development and strengthen national identity. For Cambodia, the Government prioritises the development of culture as the "soul" and national identity, an endless resource, and a foundation to strengthen love and cohesion.

Therefore, Minister Phouerng Sackona stated that this 19th Cultural Week between the two countries not only shows the joint efforts of the two sides, but is also an event that helps the people of the two countries have more opportunities to learn about each other's culture.

The art programme at the Opening Ceremony was performed by the Viet Bac Folk Music and Dance Theater with many singing, dancing, and traditional musical instrument performances of Vietnam.

Vietnam Cultural Week in Cambodia 2024 will continue to take place from now until 25th May in the capital Phnom Penh and Banteay Meanchey Province. In addition to the art performance program at the Opening Ceremony, the series of events also includes holding an art performance programme at Banteay Meanchey on 24th May; Combined with organising art programmes to serve the Vietnamese community in Cambodia.
