Planting forest “For a green Vietnam 2011” project will cover 30 ha

In Hanoi, on December 28, Canon Vietnam Co., Ltd. (CVN) signed an agreement with Luc Ngan District People's Committee, Cam Son Protective Forest Management Board from Bac Giang province, Thanh Hoa Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Ben En National Park from Thanh Hoa province for the planting forest “For a green Vietnam 2011” project.

Starting as March 2010, currently, around 90% of 20ha planted tree of the first year of the project is growing up. Next year, Canon Vietnam will continue to expand scale of the program in Bac Giang province as well as select Thanh Hoa as the second province for the project. Through the project, Canon Vietnam expects to increase the area of protective forest, reduce the amount of CO2, protect and prevent erodent land and make a green environment in Vietnam.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Sachio Kageyama – CVN General Director said: “Environmental pollution recently has become a serious issue of the world. And protecting environment is not only responsibility of individual or organization but also the whole society's responsibility. If each one plants and protects one tree, we do hope for a green covering all hills and whole ways in the nation as well as create a green planet – the most valuable property for the next generations”.

Under the agreement, Canon Vietnam will sponsor to plant 30 ha forest with the total capital of 500 million VND. Applying new forest management method that is being implemented in Vietnam, forest will be given to the local household for taking care and managing under the supervision of Provincial People's Committee, District People's Committee and Protective Forest Management Board. Each household will look after, exploit and protect the given forest by themselves. This project is not only improve local people's awareness of planting and protecting forest but also their income.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Cau – Director of Cam Son Protective Forest Management Board, forest plays an important role in human life, especially protective forest. “Because forest is an important shield in preventing flood, making the air equable and protecting/preventing erodent land. Therefore, Planting Protective Forest Project of Canon Vietnam has great meaning in covering unoccupied land, bald hill with green trees”, he added.

In March 2011, Bac Giang and Thanh Hoa provinces will begin their job in cultivating seeds and planting trees.
