Hoa Binh: Developing tourism associating with conservation and promotion of cultural characteristics in Cao Phong district

Located in Hoa Binh province, Cao Phong is favoured by nature with charming landscape. The district has many potentials in tourism such as cultural tourism, eco-tourism combining with cultural - spiritual, historical tourism, gardens tourism.

To exploit efficiently those tourism potentials, District’s Party Committee issued Resolution No.10 on tourism and sport development, conservation and promotion cultural characteristics of ethnic groups in the 2007-2010 period, toward 2015.

Based on the Resolution, People’s Committee of District has directed all levels to coordinate in management of tourism activities and solutions to related issues; make plan for each tourism development period and set up projects to attract investment.

People’s Committee of District also has conducted investigation, evaluation and classification of tourism resources, situation of investment, development, exploitation and use of resources in the locality. On that base, the district has developed three tourist routes including: Binh Thanh - Thung Nai - Da river, Muong, Dao ethnic ancient village – historic relic of Bo Temple - Hoa Binh lake ecotourism area; Tan Phong - Dung Phong - Yen Lap, Yen Thuong with historical monuments as Queng Ang pagoda, Nui Coi flower garden, Khanh pagoda and Muong mountain village; Xuan Phong with gardens, Thuong Can lake, traditional villages of Can 1, Can 2, Mung (Xuan Phong commune). 

Meanwhile, the district has strengthened propagandizing to promote awareness and responsibility of local authorities and people on tourism development; made plan for promotion programs; developed traditional tourism products such as brocade weaving; restored traditional festivals as Khanh pagoda festival... The district has invested in building infrastructure serving tourism such as: roads, electricity, public health, communications, water supply, sanitation; developed human resource and restaurants & accommodation services… Besides, the district also has facilitated investment environment such as land supply, construction license, site clearance, maintenance of security and traffic safety, good management of organizations and individuals involving in travel business, ensuring food hygiene and safety…

With these solutions, awareness on tourism development of all levels and local people had many positive changes. Tourism has been identified as one of the most important economic sectors of the district. In the past years, tourism activities has contributed to boost the development and economic restructuring by increasing proportion of trade and services, creating more jobs, increasing income of the population and local revenue, conserving and promoting traditional culture values. In 2002, tourism revenue reached only 295 millions VND, but in 2011 the number was 4.8 billions VND with 95,363 tourist arrivals. It is expected that Cao Phong would become an attractive destination of domestic and foreign tourists in the coming time.
