In fact, our environment is getting polluted increasingly by industrial emissions, household waste, chemicals ... The natural resources are also getting exhausted due to over exploitation, wasteful use, climate change …
Using green products is becoming a strategy of all sectors and countries.
In Vietnam, the environment protection campaign in the tourism industry is being promoted actively through certification system of sustainable tourism Green Lotus Label for accommodations, that satisfy requirements about: sustainable management; maximizing economic and social benefits for local communities; minimizing negative impacts on cultural & natural heritage and environment.
A problem posed for accommodation facilities is how to build an environmentally friendly hotel. Blue Sky Ha Long Hotel is a typical green hotel with economical use of energy and active involvement in Green Lotus Label program implemented by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
The 3-star hotel - Blue Sky is located in central tourist city of Ha Long, with 9 floors and 82 rooms, restaurant, conference rooms and other functional divisions. Being aware of improving efficiency of using energy, hotel directors have calculated specifically business efficiency and invested in some solutions to use energy efficiently since the building of the hotel. The hotel has applied some solutions such as: using smart air-conditioning system, electric-saving lighting system, water boiling system by solar energy …
Especially, in 2011, because of the difficult economic situation, increased material prices, the hotel managers decided to use a heat pump system. As a result, the total value of energy saved after applying energy saving measures was VND 200 million per year.
Thanks to using energy equipment efficiently, the hotel has gained practical economic benefits by reducing business costs, maintaining service costs and improving competitiveness. This is an efficient model, that should be introduced and replicated in other enterprises to reduce the burden for energy and water sector which is an urgent global issue.
