WAR inaugurates new animal rescue station

The Ho Chi Minh City – based non-profit organization Wildlife at Risk (WAR), in collaboration with the city’s Forest Protection Department and the southern province of Kien Giang, on July 27 put into operation the Hon Me Rescue Station in Hon Dat District.

The 3ha station, which will aim to rescue endangered rare animals in the Mekong Delta region before releasing them back into the wild, has been established according to the project entitled "Construction of Bear Rescue Station" implemented by WAR, Free the Bear and the Brigitte Bardot Foundation during the period of 2008-2010.

Hon Me Rescue Station is currently taking care of more than 50 individuals of many endangered species including moon bears, sun bears, yellow-checked crested gibbons, pygmy loris, giant Asian pond turtles, Tibetan bears, Malayan bears, pig-tailed macaques, coolies, pangolins and elongated tortoises

Before opening the Hon Me Rescue Station, Wildlife at Risk earlier inaugurated two similar stations. They are the Cu Chi Wildlife Rescue Station and Cat Tien Bear and Wild Cat Rescue Station.
