Up to now, over 1,000 young people and around 40 clubs and groups in Da Nang have registered to participate in the 2013 Earth Hour programme, the organisers have recently announced.
The event will have “Me and You, let’s take action” as its theme. It is being co-organised by the Da Nang 260+ Group, a group acting for the environment and the community, and the Financial Administration Faculty of Da Nang University of Economics.
This year’s programme runs from 7 am to 10 pm on 23 March. It will feature a variety of activities, such as an exhibition displaying a picture collection entitled “A Story About Climate Change” and collecting the signatures of local residents who pledge to turn off their non-essential lights for Earth Hour. In addition, the participants will also display and sell handicraft products to raise money for charity, as well as ride bicycles on local main streets in Lien Chieu and Hai Chau districts to publicise the Earth Hour campaign.
Furthermore, the main programme, themed “Earth Hour Night”, will take place at the Eastern Sea Park between 4 pm and 10 pm on the same day. There will be a musical performance along with team dancing. This will give local young people the opportunity to join together to save electricity.
Turning off lights and non-essential electrical equipment will officially take place from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on 23 March.
