''Business for Environment'' Global Summit 2009

The Business for Environment Global Summit (B4E) was held on April 22-23 in Paris, France. More than 700 representatives of businesses, social organisations, international institutions and governments' leaders from over 30 countries had participated the Global Submit to discuss environmental issues and seek innovative solutions for a greener future.

This was the third time the Global Summit had been held. According to Achim Steiner, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the current crises provide a new engine to put the world on the road to a less-carbon and energy-effective consuming society. B4E Summit was an ideal occasion for policy makers to deeply disscuss about their role in green economy development.

The Summit focused on Green Economy Initiatives, innovation and technology, policies, effective ressources, global water shortage... and particularly the UNEP's summary of Green Plannet development strategy. The strategy proposed essential areas in which countries should invest to get the economies recovered sustainably and and also suggested that only 1% of global's GDP (equivalent to US$750 billion) could be the key motivation for Green Economy. The mentioned essential areas would play an significant part in recovering global economy, lowering unemployment rate and enhancing efforts against climate change, poverty, environmental deterioration.
