Da Nang's buses to meet Euro 4 standard

Update: 26/05/2009
The Da Nang People's Committee and the German Reconstruction Credit Institute (KfW - Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau) have agreed to cooperate in improving the city's public transportation, in which Euro4-diesel will be used for buses in the city to meet European emission standard.

A State-own company will be commissioned to run the project, meanwhile the municipal authority will provide financial aids to lower bus fares for workers, students... and to launch other promotional campaigns aiming at encouraging civilians to travel by buses.

The project once goes on right track will lure civilians to prefer travelling by buses to motorbikes, Tran Van Minh - Chairman of the People's Committee said.

15 million euros of the total 16.4 million euros (VND373.9 billion) will be borrowed in ODA loan. Designed by Japanese Almec Corporation in conformity with urban space, the idea of Da Nang city buses system was inspired by Paris's Metro, with 83.7km bus-route, 9 entrepots and 340 bus-stops.
