Sea and Islands Week firstly held in Vietnam
Update: 01/06/2009
Vietnam will hold a Sea and Islands Week between June 1-8 in response to the World Ocean Day (June 8). According to Dr. Nguyen Chu Hoi, Deputy Head of the Vietnam Sea and Islands General Department, the event, the first of its kind in the country, is considered a significant milestone for Vietnam’s sea and islands management sector as well as for the world ocean community.
A series of practical activities will be held during the week, including a photo exhibition hosted by the Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA).
A sea environment cleaning drive will be organised in northeastern Quang Ninh province.
Scientists and leaders from provinces and cities nationwide will gather right on the World Ocean Day to discuss how the Vietnamese sea copes with climate change.
