The HCM City Department of Natural Resources and Environment has ordered enterprises to cease all production processes that generate wastewater if it is not properly treated. It asked the Taiwanese-owned Paiho Company, which makes textile dyes in Tan Tao Industrial Park, to stop operation.
Though the company has invested in a wastewater treatment system, analysis of waste samples found the dirty level of effluents ten times higher than permissible, the department said.
Other companies asked to stop some production processes include Tuan Lan Production and Trading company and Khai Dang Production and Trading company, both in Tan Tao industrial park.
Private launderer Khoi Nguyen and Pham Thu Production and Trading Company in Hoc Mon District are also on the list after the latter was found dumping 100 to 500 cubic metres of wastewater daily, with the quality of effluents five times worse than the allowed level.
They have been fined previously for the same violations, Paiho paying VND30 million, Tuan Lan VND5 million, Pham Thu VND42 million, and Khoi Nguyen VND18 million.
Nguyen Thi Du, the Department’s chief inspector, said the ban would not be lifted until enterprises treat sewage more thoroughly.
To deal with enterprises that continue to flout norms, the Department would establish an inter-departmental inspection team, she added.
