With the capacity to treat 21 tonnes of waste per day, the toxic waste treatment plant being constructed in Dong Thanh is the big hope for HCM City in solving the medical rubbish and industrial waste problem. Construction of the plant was kicked off on June 16.
At present, toxic waste like rubbish from hospitals and industrial factories is treated by burning. This job is conducted by private companies or the city’s urban environment company.
“This is the first and the most modern plant to treat toxic waste in the city. It will be able to deal with large volumes of waste and especially dangerous rubbish that other facilities cannot handle,” said the HCM City Urban Environment Company’s director Huynh Minh Nhut, the investor, during the groundbreaking ceremony in Hoc Mon district, HCM City.
The facility is being built in the Dong Thanh dumping ground, with a total investment capital of over 95 billion dong ($5.27 million). It is expected to be operational later this year.
