Phu Yen: 300 hectares of coral need to be preserved
Update: 19/06/2009
'Phu Yen's seashore boasts 4 coral areas of over 300 hectares, concentrated at the sea waters of Song Cau and Tuy An', Institute of Oceanography's survey. This valuable resource will help maintain benefits of seashore aquatic products and develop marine ecotourism. However, recent illegal exploitation leads to deterioration of the coral ecosystem.
Scientists have proposed resolutions as raising communities' awareness on biological diversity and significance of coral reefs; reinforcing prevention of illegal coral exploitation; integrating coral reefs management into local socio-economic development plan; developing livelihood programmes attached with reasonable exploitation of aquiculture in the area.
