Hanoi hits the streets for Environment Day
Update: 29/05/2008
Thousands of marchers are expected to turn out for the “Walk for the Environment” event around Hoan Kiem on June 1 organised by the Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DONRE) as part of a series of Environment Day 2008 events.
There will be a photo exhibition and art installation entitled Climate Change and students from the College of Fine Arts will also present a large painting which was made from recycled material to the Hanoi People’s Committee.
It is expected DONRE will host the Walk for the Environment annually as part of on-going efforts to make urban dwellers more aware about environmental problems and solutions.
Another environmental event, “Riding Bicycles for the Environment,” was launched last Sunday and will run till the end of May. Volunteers from colleges and universities have been divided in small groups to ride about 150 bicycles on six main streets in Hanoi.
Environment Day 2008 has Vietnamese involvement along with several foreign funders and participating organisations such as the Swedish International Development Agency’s Fund for Environment, Swiss-Vietnamese Clean Air Programme, Unilever Vietnam, Urban Environment Company and many others.
