A national campaign will take place in northern Bac Giang province on March 19 and 20 in honour of World Water Day on March 22, according to the Directorate of Water Resources.
The campaign, themed ‘Water and Sustainable Development', includes a photo exhibition, a seminar, and an art performance. It also hosts a national meeting with top State officials in attendance who will speak on the matter.
Bac Giang was selected to host the event due to its local diversity of water resources and relevant challenges faced. Most of the water used in the province comes from the highly polluted Thuong, Cau and Luc Nam rivers.
Each year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of freshwater, consolidating the valuable resource's role in the sustainable development agenda.
According to the UN Water, by 2025, 1.8 billion people will be living in countries or regions with absolute water scarcity, and two-thirds of the world's population will be living under water-stressed conditions.
