The World Water Day 2016: Water and Jobs

The United Nations has announced the theme of the World Water Day this year “Water and Jobs”. This selected theme is to focus on the role of water on jobs and livelihood of people.

 

At the present, nearly half of the global labour force, about 1.5 billion people, are working on sectors related to water, of which millions people have not been recognized and protected with basic rights. It has to be changed.

 

The World Water Day is an annual event and held on March 22nd. It is an opportunity to highlight the important role of water and call supports for sustainable management of water resources.

 

The World Water Day was initially proposed at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in 1992 and firstly held one year later.

 

Every year, the World Water Day has one theme to highlight a specific aspect of water. The theme of this event in 2015 was “Freshwater with sustainable development” while that of this year is “Clean water and jobs”. The themes in 2017 and 2018 will be “Wastewater” and “Natural solution for water”.
