Earth Hour 2016 officially launched

Starting on 5/3 to 19/3 in 63 cities, provinces nationwide, Earth Hour 2016 themed "Small actions, big meaning" attracted the active participation of a large number of people.

 

Earth Hour this year calls for the community’s participation in raising awareness on efficient energy saving. Small actions such as saving electricity, water, food and reasonable spending would help social community save a large amount of fuel and protect the environment.

 

In the opening speech at the launching ceremony, Nguyen Viet Son - Deputy Director of General Department of Energy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) urged all organizations, individuals, families, businesses to contribute in the fight against climate change by concrete and practical actions such as simply switching off unused lights and electrical appliances during Earth Hour.

 

“Switching off the lights” of Earth Hour this year will officially take place at 20.30hrs to 21.30hrs of 19/3 at the Opera House in Ha Noi with the participation of leaders of the State, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ha Noi People’s Committee along with the enthusiastic response of the majority of pupils, students and the public.

 

This is the 8th year Viet Nam has participated in the Earth Hour campaign and also the 5th year Ministry of Industry and Trade has hosted this activity. According to statistics, only 1-hour power outage in response to Earth Hour annually from 2009 to 2015, Viet Nam has saved millions of kWh of electricity, equivalent to billions of VND, and this number keeps on rising by year.
