Secretary of the municipal Party’s Committee Hoang Trung Hai made the statement at an online conference in Hanoi on June 23.

The investment in industrial parks and craft villages is increasing; hence, it is necessary to strictly manage environmental issues as soon as possible, he said.

He pointed to such environmental challenges as poor sanitation infrastructure and climate change.

Given that, the Standing Board of the Hanoi Party’s Committee promulgated Resolution No.11 – NQ/TW on May 31, 2017 on strengthening environmental protection through 2020 and the following years.

He called for strong determination and drastic engagement of the whole political system to realise environmental protection goals.

Competent agencies and authorities were requested to build plans to protect water resources and ensure effective management of toxic and solid wastes.

The resolution puts forth four major measures to protect the city’s environment: improving the State management efficiency; prompting campaigns to raise public awareness of protecting the environment and natural resources; intensifying inspections to promptly detect and strictly punish violations; and mobilising financial resources to build environmental technical infrastructure.

The conference also deliberated other issues such as granting land use right certificates and ensuring traffic safety and urban order.-VNA.
