Hoi An showcase of an ancient Japanese merchant ship

To welcome APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) 2017, Hoi An city (Quang Nam province) will showcase the model of a red-seal ship (an ancient merchant ship) that was offered by Japanese authorities. The event starts on November 10, 2017.

At the press conference on 17 October, the activities during the APEC 2017 in Quang Nam were announced, including cultural exchanges, tourism activities, and economic promotion. One of them is the Japan event in Hoi An with two main programmes, the showcase of the model of a red-seal ship and the Vietnam-Japan friendship cultural space.

The model showcased is of a red-seal ship that was used by Japanese traders when they did business in Hoi An and in other countries 400 years ago. It is also the ship that brought Princess Ngoc Hoa to her husband’s homeland, Nagasaki. The ship model is reported to be put at Nguyen Thi Minh Khai street (Hoi An city). It will also be used in the Nagasakikunchi Festival and the opening ceremony of the Vietnam-Japan friendship cultural space.

At the Vietnam-Japan friendship cultural space is the Vietnamese and Japanese space of tangible and intangible culture consisting of several activities such as tea ceremony, martial arts, art performances.

On this occasion, the delegation of Nagasaki province will pay a working visit to Quang Nam provincial leaders.
