(TITC)- On 18th May, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST) coordinated with the People's Committee of Nghe An Province and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union launched a campaign to protect the environment in tourism at Binh Minh Square, Cua Lo Town, Nghe An Province.
The campaign, themed “Viet Nam’s Blue Sea”, was organized in response to International Biodiversity Day (22/5) and World Environment Day (5/6).
Attending the launching ceremony were Ms. Dang Thi Bich Lien - Deputy Minister of MOCST; Mr. Le Minh Thong - Vice Chairman of People's Committee of Nghe An Province and more than 1,000 members of Youth Union, employees of tourism enterprises and local people.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister Dang Thi Bich Lien informed that Viet Nam is home to 3,200 km of coastline, over 2,770 islands and beautiful beaches from north to south. Coastal areas attract about 70% of international visitors to Viet Nam and 50% of domestic visitors each year, contributing 70% total revenue of tourism industry.
She also emphasized that Viet Nam is facing to challenges related to climate change and environment pollution in coastal areas and beaches. MOCST will continue to coordinate with relevant organizations and localities to strengthen state management in tourism environment protection, raising awareness and responsibility of the community and tourists in tourism destinations in order to develop sustainable tourism.
After the launching ceremony, the campaign is carried out in five central coastal provinces including Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Da Nang from May 18 to 26.
