In addition to decorating the streets on the occasion, the municipal Department of Culture and Sports has stepped up communications work to encourage Hanoians to enhance the city’s image as a safe and friendly locality.
The procession passed through Hanoi’s famous locations surrounding the Hoan Kiem Lake in the very heart of the city, including Melia Hanoi Hotel, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hotel, the Hanoi Opera House and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.
With more than 150 vehicles decked with the national flags of Vietnam, the US and the DPRK, the event called on people to comply with the city’s lifestyle and traffic rules, while ensuring social order.
Director of the department To Van Dong said that Hanoi’s hosting of the second DPRK-USA summit reflects the city’s honour and responsibility for an international event.
The procession aims to raise public awareness about promoting the image of Vietnam and Hanoi in particular to the world, an important task to maintain the reputation of Hanoi – the City for Peace, he noted.
Hanoi has basically completed the groundwork for the DPRK-USA Hanoi Summit Vietnam, slated for February 27-28, and the official friendship visit by Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un.
The city has also asked environmental companies to clean up major streets, especially those surrounding the planned venues of meetings during the summit. -VNA
