Forest protection and Green Annamite project

The Green Annamite (Truong Son Xanh) project, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has helped the localities in the project approach modern methods for forest management. The project has also diversified the forest ecosystem.

The districts including Dong Giang, Tay Giang, Phuoc Son, Nong Son, Bac Tra My, Nam Tra My and Nui Thanh are given the project’s components of forestland and forest diversity protection. Up to now, nearly 2 million tons of CO2 emissions has been reduced. The local abilities to manage landscapes and forests have been improved. The project has also provided livelihood for over 3000 people and protected nearly 84,000 ha of forest. According to Quang Nam leaders, the Green Annamite project helps Quang Nam reinforce their capacities of responding to climate change, reduce waste, protect the locals, forest landscapes and biodiversity, and better the locals’ lives.

It is noteworthy that the project gives an priority to forest management and preservation by using modern technology, helping facilitate all the activities in the project area. The project plans to spend VND100 billion on communications and biodiversity protection in 2019. The work is done in in Song Thanh and Sao La natural reserves. At the same time, the preservation of the population of gray-shanked doucs is carried out in Tam My Tay commune, Nui Thanh district.
