Hundreds of students from different Ha Noi universities joined the capital city’s first campaign to raise awareness about wildlife protection.
The November 10-16 "A Matter of Attitude" campaign was organised by the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) and TRAFFIC, the wildlife trade monitoring network.
Funded by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), the campaign aimed to change attitudes about consumption of wild animal products in Ha Noi.
Students wearing orange T-shirts went to popular spots in the capital city to spread the word about the implications of illegal and unsustainable wildlife trade. They also handed out a few fun promotional items such as pens and notebooks to commuters.
"This is a great opportunity for the youth of Ha Noi and the general public to get excited about protecting Viet Nam’s natural heritage. We hope that through this entertaining and very educational experience, the messages will stay with the audience long after the day," said Julianne Becker, WWF Viet Nam project co-ordinator.
In the evening, a mobile exhibition team travelled to five universities for an evening of fun with live music performances by local rock bands, quiz shows about the wildlife trade and a showcase of artwork from a previous print design competition.
Miss Audition Emily, Recycle Rock Band and dance groups Big Toe and Burning Crew performed at the Ha Noi National University of Education, Hacinco Student Village, Ha Noi Culture University and Ha Noi Foreign Trade University.
The final university event was held at the Ha Noi University of Civil Engineering on Monday.
