The Ministry of Transport has issued a document approving the policy on implementing the project of renovating and building a tourist train with a steam locomotive on the route from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.
Under the document, the project of transporting tourists on the train by steam locomotive on the Hue – Da Nang section of the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City route is a cooperation project from Vietnam Railways Cooperation (VNR) and Indochina Rail Tourist Service Company Limited.
The Ministry of Transport asked the VNR, in collaboration with Indochina Rail Tourist Service Company Limited, to allocate funds to invest in the items of the project, ensuring compliance with current standards and technical regulations.
In addition, the VNR should develop a train schedule to ensure the safety for the transportation of passengers and goods.
Units must pay the fee for using railway infrastructure from the project's transportation revenue according to regulations.
The experts said that in order to exploit the steam locomotive, it is essential to construct auxiliary works such as a rotary bridge to turn the locomotive, preparatory house, adjustment road, and coal and water supply system.
