MOCST approving the project on developing smart tourism

(TITC) – The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST) approved the Project "Application of Industry 4.0’s technology to develop smart tourism, spreading tourism to become a key economic sector" at Decision 3570/QĐ-BVHTTDL dated on 21 December 2022.

The project sets the common goal of applying technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to develop a smart tourism ecosystem in Vietnam, meeting the increasing needs of tourists in the digital age; supporting effective connection between state management agencies in charge of tourism, businesses, tourists and related stakeholders. Developing smart tourism ensures professionalism, modernity, meets innovation requirements, contributing to improving the development capacity of Vietnam tourism, making tourism a key economic sector, ensuring sustainable development and international integration.

By 2025, developing a smart tourism ecosystem to ensure consistency and synchronization in sustainable smart city development Applying advanced technologies to develop platforms and applications serving tourists, communities, businesses and state management agencies in tourism. Developing digital data system, tourism industry database as the foundation for building smart tourism applications. Connecting and sharing tourism information systems from central to local levels and tourism service businesses and establishments...

Orientation to 2030, developing smart tourism to meet the requirements and goals of sustainable development, contributing to making Vietnam an attractive destination, tourism really becomes a spearhead economic sector. Forming a smart and synchronous tourism ecosystem on the basis of accessing the world's leading advanced technologies. Expanding the development of smart tourism in most key tourist areas, contributing to the formation of smart  city system nationwide. Vietnam tourism effectively exploits economic values from smart tourism development and makes a great contribution to GDP.

In order to realize the goals, the project clearly outlines 7 groups of tasks and solutions summarized as follows:.

The first, in terms of perfecting institutionspolicies and legal documents on smart tourism development, it is necessary to develop flexible and appropriate policies and management mechanisms, creating a favorable environment for technology application, innovation in the field of tourism, ensuring the goal of green growth and sustainable development. Encourage domestic digital technology enterprises to invest in developing applications for smart tourism.

Second, regarding the development of tourism digital data system, it is necessary to develop and expand the database of the tourism industry to ensure synchronization, connection and interoperability from central to local levels; data standardization, identification system associated with management objects. Developing digital data for tourism activities on the basis of big data for industry management and users; improving interoperability in the digital environment between State management agencies in charge of tourism at central and local levels; between the state management agency in charge of tourism and tourism businesses, tourists and people.

Third, in terms of application development, Industry 4.0 technology will be applied to develop services and applications with specific functional modules for the purpose of exploiting information from the tourism data system to meet the needs of many users in the smart tourism ecosystem such as: tourists, state management of tourism, smart destination management, smart business management.

Fourth, regarding the development of information technology infrastructure, it is necessary to develop secure technology infrastructure and high-speed internet connection. Investing and building a synchronous and modern information infrastructure system; building and upgrading the information technology infrastructure to ensure the deployment of smart tourism development; building an integration platform, sharing data, ensuring connection and sharing digital data of the tourism industry among agencies, building system with ensuring safety and security.

Fifth, regarding human resources, improving skills and update new knowledge in digital technology and innovation in order to equip human resources with appropriate capabilities, providing equal opportunities for everyone to benefit from the application of technology. Building qualified human resources for the deployment of smart tourism development.

Sixth, regarding international cooperation, strengthening cooperation, exchange information and experience on the application of technology to develop smart tourism with countries and international organizations. Join international forums on smart tourism development to promptly grasp the world's new trends in smart tourism assessment and development.

Seventh, regarding to raise awareness about smart tourism development, raising awareness of stakeholders in tourism activities about actively participating in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, applying achievements of science and technology, on the role and benefits of smart tourism development. Diversifying forms of communication on digital technology platforms: electronic portals, social networks, newsletters, topics and documents on smart tourism development. Propagating to attract and encourage the active participation of the entire tourism industry in smart tourism development.
